We ended off December 2017 by delivering our beautiful COUVERTURE recently surrendered by her owner.  It was Love at First Sight for the new Adoptor.  Go well, Courverture!  A great way to start the year!

The December 2017 Newsletter was delivered late because of my new laptop and a completely different programme (Windows 10) to boot.  However, all sorted by COMPUTER BITS AND PIECES.  Thank you for your ongoing support.

Two stray horses taken in off the road by Animal Outreaches.  We collected them as it was in their area after 7 days and are now available for Adoption. Both have put on a lot of weight!

A number of Complaints were received about the donkeys tethered on the railway line and viewed by concerned voyagers on the Apple Express.  It must be said here that the owner of the donkeys, Moses from Walmer Township is a VERY responsible owner, so when he is working with his other donkeys, he takes the non-working donkeys to where there is grazing and yes, he tethers them to the fence.  He is being compliant with Municipal Bye Laws that say you must not let your animals stray on the road.  They are also tethered to prevent them from straying onto the roads that Motorists use thereby becoming a ‘moving target’.  He does give them water, but unfortunately he cannot leave the buckets with them as they get stolen!  Sometimes the ropes are also stolen!  However, Stanley with have a word with him and get them moved away from the public eye and facebook!  Thank you, Ruthie for your good explanation to concerned citizens.  …And Moses has no problem phoning for help when he needs it.  Moses regularly asks for Tick Dip for dipping his donkeys. Good on you, Moses!

We collected a lame donkey from KwaLanga for treatment.  His hooves were very short.  Nothing a bit of a rest won’t sort out and a touch of Stanley’s tender ministrations.

At last the surrendered horses from the Karroo (due to the drought) are starting to find their new homes.   They too have put on weight and are waiting for you to visit.  So SHADOW and SOCKS have left, one for a green valley, and one to Gauteng. And we now have only 5 left!

Our Jackson from Kwanobuhle had to make that ghastly decision that we all know so well.  We had brought his grey pony in for hoof problems and then he decided to sell her for her own safety.  We managed to arrange a change of owner for WHITEY who now has great company, lots of grazing and some donkey friends.

Sally, on her weekend on duty, was asked by SPCA Uitenhage to collect a stray donkey with a vicious wound to the spine, probably from a ‘kapmes’ (Machete).  She did as asked and went direct to 9^th Avenue Veterinary Clinic, where an official Opinion was given to euthanase immediately.   Done!  The owner has asked where the donkey was and it was explained to him that his donkey was no more.  RIP

Carla received a Complaint about a noisy donkey in Linton Grange.  This did not sound right at all, but she went off and found that the ‘donkey’ was actually a cow.  All NMMM Rules and Regulations complied with.

Our Friend Kapie from Jacksonville, PE North found a stray donkey on Standford Road and called to ask Stanley to please come and fetch.  Stanley did exactly that and now he is waiting to be adopted by some kind soul.  Never claimed and already in his new home. HERBIE, as he is now known, hthe having not been claimed in 7 days, was adopted out to a new home!
