September '26

Then a request to come and assess a small riding club that will be starting in humansdorp. PJ phoned asking if we would be able to assist them in an educational talk on how to treat and handle horses as well as a general welfare check on the horses. Only six horses were brought to the meeting this day, 5 were in acceptable condition but one mare, very old and underweight was of some concern. Advised to retire her asap. Carli and jack had a good afternoon with PJ and the kids, dewormed and assessed the horses, treating one wound. A good relationship was formed and another visit for more horses has been set for End of September.

Sarcoids can be a real pain in the rear.. and a determining factor unfortunately. Another Tb heading into treatment.. Good luck girl x

A sad day when one of the Volunteers passed away from cancer Rest In Peace Chris , you were the most gentle, kind, humble man and all the four legged children (and humans) at the welfares will miss you dearly . Thank You for everything X May you rest with the angels as you are..

Another sad day putting Oupa to rest. Oupa lived a good few years out at a retirement farm, With his mates, Blacky Chan and Jack. Oupa proved himself to not be a great cart donkey which inadvertently helped in the quest. Rest in Peace old man

A strange case of lamesness, X rays done.. long road ahead but positive.

Four horses vaccinated against AHS

The donkey that was stuck in the mud a few months ago landed with her bum in the butter at a new home with soon to be gelded companion.

Two donkeys brought themselves in from the walmer township for a bit of RnR. Owner collected.

Four donkeys treated for mange. Tricky , goddam stubborn mange!

Then a happy day for King and Ms B. After being abandoned, by a so called sanctuary, these two were moved from property to property being left with no care and not even feed at times. Now finally they have the home they deserve. King was an absolute angel when his little human test rode him, they were so impressed with him they decided to take his bff (Ms B Too) Go well sweet children may your golden years be your best XX

The Tb and colt that were looking very shabby and underweight in August have made a brilliant turn around. Amazing what a bit of pressure and advice can do , well done M!

We were requested to do an outreach in the Northern Cape, Noupoort, whereby the horses are in a terrible state and owners don’t take any responsibility for them. Unfortunately we hear the same story over and over again in these small towns. Arranging for before the end of the year, all just coming too quick right now. 60 plus horses

Our Little Northy had a slight bout of colic, but luckily came right before we needed to call a vet.

Another four Tbs vaccinated for AHS

Complaints of flies on other people’s animals .. we are limited to what we can do here guys , but if you want to assist your welcome.

The handsome Prince, who was tossed out to the communities. After spending years as a trail ride horse, finally found his forever home, just as he deserves. His own stable and companion with everything he could possibly need. Thank you to Jenny for alerting us to him and his now late friend and assisting on getting them out of their bad situation. Go well Princy, we are SOOOO happy for you! X

A cry for help when the trailer carrying two minnies broke down on the Highway. Staff went to fetch them in the horsebox and bring them in to safety at the unit. Owner very grateful and paid us the petrol to transport them back safely home on the Monday. Well done Carli, Jack and Caydn for getting them home safe and sound.

A pony with cancer under her tail took a turn for the worse and went to God RIP sweet child.

CARLI - NEW INSPECTOR – Great News Carli passed her Inspectors Exam! Congrats Carli, we are so proud of you!! Looking forward to your future in equine crime ;) SEE PHOTO: Chuffed

Received a complaint of a lone horse neglected at a camp site. We visited and found the horse to be in acceptable condition. Yes he is alone but there are other animals and people around all day and is better off than a lot of other horses we have tended too. Met the owner and confirmed with them that they are doing all the right things.

Then the complaint of another, single horse in a scrap yard area who keeps escaping. Upon inspection we found the horse to be a stallion and met the owner who is very passionate about doing what’s right for the horse. Education, a little guidance and good to go. We have arranged to geld him this week, so first step toward good life complete. Fencing in proper safe area also undergo.

A horse far in land, had been kicked quite severely needing meds but difficult to access, so assisted this time, hoping there won’t be a next..

Recheck on 25 donkeys

One pony and four donkeys dewormed

Three children’s hooves trimmed at the Unit – Thank You Chane’ for being so kind and gentle with our kids.

Recheck on moderate looking Tbs .. keeping an eye..

Our Rocco finally got gelded! Poor boy was collected from a herd of cows he was harassing due to frustration of being a stallion and being kept alone.. Almost time to make friends Rocco:)

Then another complaint of a Tb in the township near Fairview racecourse. Here we go again…

Till Next Time
