Finally Spring is upon us. One sleeps well knowing it’s not so cold outside for all the forgotten souls..
Starting with a stubborn Complaint in another province. Municipal officials messing with the system to help themselves , while others pay the cost for other peoples horses. Can only be of moral and legal support to this case but very difficult when officials themselves are not playing by the rules.
Some very welcome fundraising prospects /events popping up in the next couple of months. Please keep a look out and support them if you can. Should be loads of fun for the whole family! @28October @WilburWalk 16December
Two donkeys with serious hoof issues sorted by Stan.
One sweet little’ Honey Pot’ fostered off to be a companion to a mare who lost her best friend unexpectedly. They both seem to be very happy and settled with each other. Such gentle girls ,very happy for them.
Another sad, unexpected death for one of our adoptee donkey duos. A week or two of trying to make the right decision resulted in one sad jenny. She stood by her best friends grave every day to mourn. When we delivered Rocky to be her new companion, it was love at first sight, well for Hope at least ;) The equine family are very sociable creatures, they form strong ,necessary bonds with each other. Please remember if they lose their only equine friend, it is the kindest gesture to get a replacement of some sort. Someone they can identify with. Obviously another species is better than nothing but if you can one like themselves is best ;)
The Ouma donkey who we were concerned about has seemed to have a new zest for life, maybe the warmer weather? This is good news none the less.

A complaint re a horse left alone on a game farm . We advised we can collect, as long as we know the location and that there is an enclosed area to confine the animal to. Still waiting for details..
Two ponies that were adopted years ago moved to a new premises. Please bear in mind that if you have adopted or fostered any animals from us in the past, you will be legally required to keep us up to date re details of a new premises /yard.
Another ’ Foster Failure’ ;) for the stunning Nimcha and his loyal companion Mickey. So happy for you boys!

A Tb being closely monitored after a spot recheck not so good. Recovery plan put into place after discussion with owners and already improvement. Sometimes people just need a little reminder in life. Life is busy , we all are no doubt familiar with the phase ‘Not enough hours in a day !

One beautiful gelding , Lion Of Eden adopted out to a young admirer on his birthday.
Then it was time to take a special trip. Off to deliver our, infamous Rich, with his chosen companion to a dear old friend in the hills.. As most of you may know, Rich was the Late Megans Hope’s favourite. He was the Elvis of the walmer donkeys. He always had the girls going crazy when he charged past in his work attire(aka Cart), belting from the bottom of his lungs at a speed of steeds. He worked for many years with three different owners, until the day finally came to retire him. So where better to retire than your biggest admirer’s good friend in the hills. Far away from any carts or harnessing . Free to roam with his new Equine family and new friend on hand, Manfred. Unfortunately the old boy did have his prized possessions removed (Much To Stanleys Disgust ;) before he left. We all agree though , it’s not such a bad thing ;) God speed Rich and Manfred you will always be remembered , That is for Sure!
The Isuzu went in to receive a new Starter motor.
We collected one overweight, laminitic donkey to shed some weight before the usual problems started. Admitted for her Detox . lol
Another two rabies Vaccination done
A call to collect/ euthanse a donkey with a possible broken leg in Uitenhage. Poor guy hadn’t moved for a few days. On arrival to collect it was assessed, and established there was enough correct movement ,not to be broken. Very painful though , just under hock joint and putting no pressure on it at all. Wound cleaned and bandaged. Meds given. Looks like he will make a full recovery and be available for adoption soon.
We then had the Pleasure of being broken into again .. Rollling eyes.. but it seems to have had a silver lining to some extent . Chris the hero came to our rescue . Spent 5 hrs on a Sunday , Welding and re-strengethen g the gate . Thank you again Chris and all those who helped with replacing stolen items.
A sad euthanasia of one of our tbs adopted out only a year ago. You just never really know. Sorry boy . RIP sweet child.
Local ‘cartie’ Moses received two new pairs of harnessing just in time for his Matric dance debut! Looked very smart indeed! Well done Moses!
We finally finished our new mom and foal camp , just in time . Two expected babies arriving..
The other Local walmer ‘cartie’, Jackson s Mama had a perfect little foal. Welcome to the world little Sugar Pie! You are bringing such Joy to everyone that meets you.

Four rather difficult first time patients for Stan to tend to and two more donkeys hooves sorted.
A well worth phone call to a new land owner, approved very quickly to the idea of having two sweet Jennies on the property to help keep the grass down and entertain the kids. Go well MJ and Ms Jackson. The grass is definitely greener on that side of the valley.
A recent adoption having a slightly rocky start seems to have settled in the right direction. Will monitor progress.
Then the Birthday Party of KIERRA, a very committed friend of the unit who chose to give 20 bales of lucerne for her birthday and for allowing her to have her party with us. What a lovely afternoon, all staff were invited too and it ended up being one special party with one special birthday cake, or should we say cakes. Thank You Kierra and Sonja for sharing this special day with us. SEE BELOW:

We then had a request to help a government unit, as their vet bills had not been paid up to date. We will say no more.. The horse in question will be fine , but very worrying that the law keepers themselves cannot abide by their own rules and regulations. Very sad indeed..

Another request to collect a lone stallion left on a farm near cookhouse. Booked for first week of October..
We were then asked to help a horse left abandoned on a dairy farm, all alone and not the youngest. (yes, another one). So Stan and the grooms off to assist , luckily everything went smoothly and the boy seemed ready to move to his next home. Once dropping him off at the safe new home, an old boy from the neighboring yard was being ‘Given Free to good Home” and the lady who was taking him asked for assistance to move him to a reputable home before he would inevitably end up in the wrong hands. Stan and the guys obliged and all ended well thankfully. Thank you to both those individuals for doing the right thing. Good people getting together making the lives better for the forgotten ones. And Thank you for your kind donations too .

Lastly our Zannie and Tiny have been returned for now, but hopefully will be re d oncethe new property is ready. She can definitely go on a little diet, so maybe a good thing ;)
