We started the month welcoming our new Trainee Inspector, Carli , to the team. Welcome to Horse Care Carli, Im sure you will be an asset to the organisation and trust you will stay for at least 10 years! So far so good ;)
Delivered our little Bumble to his new forever home to be a companion to a big boy all alone. Best buds already.
Seven donkey hooves and four pony’s hooves trimmed.
A complaint of an injured, thin, old feral donkey is proving more difficult to find and contain than we originally thought. Will probably have euthanase once found but for now he is still well enough to keep away.
Our beautiful little Beauty, Bertha(mom), Billie(dog attack) and Believer(mom) are loving their new home together. We are so happy they were all managed to be homed together. SEE PHOTO BELOW:

More Rabies vaccinations : Ten donkeys vaccinated and safe for now. Please remember to keep vaccinating on an annual basis so we can keep it under wraps.
Assisted with a Euthanasia for a lady that was given an older thoroughbred with an existing carcinoma on the eye. She tried her best but can be a difficult, costly treatment. So safely over the rainbow now, with no more pain. Rest in Peace sweet boy. It really irks me to see unsound thoroughbreds ‘given’ away to people who do not have enough knowledge on the breed.
An Inspection to a trainer’s yard after receiving a complaint. Accompanied by the relevant authorities, 46 thoroughbreds inspected and okayed bar one or two questionable individuals. We will keep an eye and do a follow up in near future.
Five more donkey hooves tendered too.
Our little Midnight was re-adopted into another loving home. Let’s hope he gets to stay here this time. Poor little fella been moved from too many homes ..
Life can be strange at times, after finding a good home for a more mature, higher maintenance Tb. The Fosterer sadly decided they would not be able to keep him due to finances, so fortunately for him another adopter came up but then due to him not loading, she had to walk him home. He took a little too much strain which resulted in her changing her mind as well. .. He ended up spending the night with a good Samaritan along the way, who happened to live over the road from THE HERD SANCTUARY in Lakesisde area. The Herd takes in a newly established NPO which takes in horses to retire and just be a horse with nothing expected of them. So luckily for this boy, his time was not up yet. Thank you Sara for allowing him to join your herd. He is a tired old man with a body aged older than his years and now he can live out his life with no pressure to be anything for anyone but himself.
A complaint of a very lame horse received. It was advised that both a vet and a farrier were monitoring the case. Discussed case with both and as long as the right specialists are involved we are happy. Will monitor with relevant parties to ensure least unnecessary suffering..
Then the wonderful fundraiser initiated and arranged by Leigh Parry Estates – The MUSIC TRIVIA EVENING. It was such a super event, enjoyed thoroughly by all. Thank you to all the sponsors of all the wonderful prizes and each and every one of you who attended and assisted with this awesome event. A whopping 33K was raised and handed over to us Woohoo!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Leigh and team!
Complaint received about a stray pig. No, unfortunately we can’t help, it is running freely around Kragga Kama area, Probably happier now than it’s ever been ..
Complaint of overgrown hooves – was finally eased by owner’s farrier finally arriving .. No offence to farriers but we all know how you have to wait at times ;)
Property check done and dusted for two donks moved from old home straight to new home as old adopters emigrating. Nice when we move from one home straight to another.
Our Valentine’s day was spent euthanising an elderly horse. Thank you Terry (KKGP) and Carli. You ladies were fantastic and thankfully for the old girl she went peacefully and landed in the hole very softly and dignified . We couldn’t just leave her there. No easy task I might add. This was a longstanding case we have been battling with for months. The elderly owner too passed away soon after . Rest In Peace All. She would be happy they all went ‘together’ as such. The second pony fine for now but will meet them over the rainbow shortly.
A recheck on our beloved Pumpkin(Zani) in J bay – Fat and flourishing.
Two more donkeys from the township de wormed.
A recheck on another ‘breeder’ found one young colt in need of intervention . Arrangements made to geld, so collected, admitted to unit, awaiting the chop. Poor little boys so often have to struggle through life as a stallion, it is so much kinder to all to geld and better yet NOT BREED. If you have to breed make sure your animals are handled as often as possible otherwise it’s a sh@*show! Poor guy dewormed, with some nasty culprits in his poop the next morning..
Another re check done on four of our adopted out donks , All doing great !
Two more donkeys dewormed on request of the owner.
Two of our donkeys brought in from foster as young colt needed to be snipped. Done and dusted.
A follow up inspection resulting in happy horses and happy inspector. Another questionable breeder of the past, now moved to a new premises of which they own has made all the difference!! We are so relieved to see this. Thank You!
Two geldings from township gelded
Three horses and one donk’s hooves tendered to.
A complaint received re well known riding school. After inspection of all 29 equines we are happy to say, there is nothing to be concerned about.
Another recheck on 9 crossbreeds in outskirt areas doing well bar one. Will keep an eye on that one.
One sweet, old little mare is reaching her end. Advising and assisting owner to make the right decision before suffering and winter sets in.
Finally the ferocious fires that swept past Schoenies and Sardinia Bay area. Luckily properties remain safe for now. We only had to collect two of our donkeys for incase /safe keeping, but all looks much better at present, thankfully. Still flare ups can occur so please remain vigilant. A bigThank you to everyone who assisted where necessary.
Till next time
Carla
