A relatively quiet month for a change. We started with a TB being brought in for medical treatment from an owner in East London. ‘Bayavuya’ a beatiful gelding who came into a mean accident with some glass, was treated by a vet that side but unfortunately those that were left in charge of treating and providing medication, neglected to carry out their duties. The owner decided it safer to bring his horse all the way to P E rather, to receive correct thorough treatment from ourselves. After a fresh start and all costs covered by the owner, Baya was healed and good to go in a few weeks. Amazing how proper daily wound care and correct administration of meds speeds up the process.

A Court case is underway against the illegal castration of a horse by a Layman..
The Beautiful, Hot To Trot, was rehomed to a very capable, experienced dressage professional, who fell in love as soon as she met her. Even though Hottie purposefully tested her intention and skills with one or two bucks ;) We are so happy for you Hottie! All the Best X
Delivered our boy, Hardy, to be a companion to a lonely girl who was escaping to find company prior. A lovely grassy home, yay!
The laminitic old mare was visited and firm advice given re the way forward.. So far so good.. Will be monitoring closely.

We were alerted to one of our adopted out ponies looking very worse for wear. After inspection it was revealed they had been struggling with the pony’s weight for a while and had had numerous vet visits. After eliminating most probable causes, It was decided that the pony be removed from the environment and rather placed in a healthy retirement home under better conditions. Please be advised, when a horse is struggling over a prolonged period of time, there can be many environmental factors that contribute to its overall health that need to be taken into consideration. IE Toxic plants, possible ideal parasitic conditions as in Liver Fluke. Pony already doing much better in new environment thankfully.

A call for help when one of our adopted out ponies had a bout of colic. After a vet visited, he was feeling much better and a recheck by us the following day confirmed all was well.
A recheck on six happy donkeys was a pleasure to see.
Then our two beautiful special ladies, Emelia and Princess, mom and daughter donks, were delivered to a happy, busy 5 star home in Addo. They were adopted to be companions to one lonely gentleman of a boy who was super stoked to meet them but behaved impeccably on introduction. Such a happy little family already. Go well darlings X
Stan did some exchanging of harnessing in Uitenhage, after the old, damaged harnessing was handed in. We only replace old existing harnessing with new ones, we do not supply just anyone with new harnessing. The initiative is to help existing donkey cart owners not to promote new ones..
An older Tb will have to be euthanased due to series of worrying symptoms caused by a possible stroke. Advice and assistance given.
A recheck on six horses was of slight concern. Once again if you own horses or you have made horses your ‘Business’, be sure to have the financial resources to back it up ESPECIALLY if you do not have the tangible ones IE LAND…
Jackson’s last two remaining cart donkeys were playing hide and seek with him and arriving back at the unit separately on different days..lol
A cry for help from Patensie area where a driver was horrified to see 3 children galloping down the main road on a donkey cart. The driver was advised that , NO Children ARE NOT allowed to drive the carts on the roads without an adult present and the cart should be marked with the relevant information re the owner of the donkeys and the cart . These are however traffic offences and not entirely a welfare issue if the donkeys are in acceptable condition with no evidence of beating. We all know how traffic is policed in this country, so go figure.. We did however suggest we try organise another outreach in the area as we were giving clinics there last just before covid shut it down.
Please be very selective and careful where you send your old horses to retire. Things are not always what they seem. There are some possible scammers out there who will use and say anything to bring in funding. Also be sure they are not against euthanasia as It is the kindest way for most of these old souls when they just can’t anymore. Allow them their dignity.
Another approved property check for two recently gelded boys ! Yay , We will deliver them early March!

A recheck on 10 tbs and 4 cross breeds acceptable bar one TB. Will be monitored as we are aware of the underlying health issues of that individual.
We were lastly advised that the regal old man Duke was pts due to tumour complications. He was no spring chicken , rather late twenties and we are just so greatful he was reported to us when he was, so we could give him the home he deserved for the last few years of his life . Thank you to His moms and companion for giving him back his dignity.
