So we visited the horse that was attacked by dogs again and after speaking with owner dewormed and trimmed hooves of both horses and advised owners that horses hooves should have their hooves done every six to eight weeks and dewormed 3 x a year. Client happy to listen and learn and will be checking in every hoof visit to ensure all is good.

A property check for four of our entire boys who have been with us for far too long approved. Super excited for them to be delivered in about a weeks’ time!
A complaint re Jackson’s donkey cart being overloaded. By the time we got there and found him the load was already offloaded. Please remember to take photos or videos when you see this type of concern. Otherwise it’s your word against theirs. We need proof ie PHOTOS.
DRASA organised a wonderful fun ride in the Island as a fundraiser for us. A whopping R4 820.00 was raised and deposited into our bank account. THANK YOU so much to all her took part and to DRASA organisers for nominating us as a beneficiary.
A complaint of a riding School in Western Cape was handed over to the relevant Welfare organisations in that area who are investigating the complaint and keeping us updated.
An elderly donkey carter in Uitenhage has decided to retire from carting and hand over his donkeys to us. Well done Joe for getting them out of there and entrusting us to find them the perfect homes. We are more than happy to take any donkeys out of that situation, especially when the owner initiates the decision. Collected and two of them homed already J
Then a very sad case, along the N10 inland. We received a complaint and picture of a very bad case of ‘Slipper foot’ (overgrown hooves). We drove up to do an inspection and all I can say is that there is no remedy for this poor child L It seems she was born with a bit of a hoof deformity and left to her own devices for at least three years resulting in the leg and bone structure deforming even further each year. The excuse of the’ owner’ was that these horses are wild and roam on his farm and others. The animals are however still in their possession or control so to speak which actually makes no difference even so why try prevent us from doing the right thing if they are not yours and you have no care for them ??After initially agreeing to do the right thing, they decided to change their mind and become very hostile. After another visit with no sight of horse on the farm, a request to get Magisterial authority for that area was denied as the SPCA/NSPCA already have authority and would be best to hand over the case to them. We have handed over the case to the SPCA who have have attained a warrant and have been to the property twice already but were met with a very confrontational reception, threats and violence. Case ongoing. None of us are giving up. Please be aware if there are ‘wild’ animals on your land you are still liable for their welfare according to the Animals Protection Act no 71 of 1962 and can still be prosecuted if you allow any animal to suffer in your possession.
One of the young donkeys we collected from the township, was having difficulty passing poop, with a piece of plastic being stuck in the rectum. This is a common occurrence with township donkeys as they will eat what they can even if it is covered in plastic. This often causes them to colic. The donkey was separated before calling the vet but as luck would have it the plastic started moving. With a little help from our attentive groom Selby, who gently assisted the exit ;) Straight after the plastic passed she was back to normal. Monitored but back on track, shew.. A property check for the two donks was approved and they were delivered to their happy new home a week later. Go well girls ! No more plastic !! Just green grassy fields. SEE PHOTO:

A call for help when one of our adopted out horses had a bad wound under her tail. After a visit and assessment, being a slightly strange wound, it was decided it would be best to get a vet to come out just in case further investigation needed to be done. Thankfully Vet visited and treated with no serious diagnosis.
MADIBA DAY – A big Thankyou to ITEC NMB and Angie Ford for bringing lots of apples and carrots to treat our children with. Happy equines!

Eight horses vaccinated for AHS. Yes it’s that time of the year again. You have until end of October to get your horses done. Let’s hope there is no shortage this year..
An owner in-land wanting us to get meds for her horse even though we haven’t seen the horse, no sorry we cannot prescribe or organise any medication unless we see the horse in person and only if our vet authorizes it.

We then had a call out to uitenhage for two very sorrowful abused donkeys. The owner is known and case will be opened against him on top of his previous cases. Problem customer indeed. Poor children received a thorough vet’s assessment for a report and haven’t stop eating for days. The younger one, probably two years of age, already had an old fracture on her hind leg. So sad to see that this sweet little darling has had to go through so much already in her little life yet still trusts and loves humans so much . Bless you darling. No more suffering L Eish.

A complaint of a horse that was down at a ‘Horse Sanctuary’. After speaking with the manager it was advised that the old girl would be humanely euthanised as she is too tired to carry on. The horse was PTS same day. Thank you for doing the right thing by the animal. Rest in Peace sweet girl.
We then had one of our horseboxes collapse on our way to fetch fodder. Thank heavens there were no animals in it at the time. Safely to workshop to get fixed and should be collecting this week. Our vehicle has also had its fair share of issues this month but also thankfully back on track. Vehicles for you..
A complaint of livery clients not paying. We have been getting a lot of these complaints lately. Please Note: This is essentially a civil case. We need proof of your contract with client and copies of the final lawyer’s letter. The owners contact details will then need to be divulged’ before we can do anything from our side.
