May ' 25

The month started with another trip up to Nieu Bethesda to collect two ponies that were surrended over to us from the community. One, old, feisty little mare and another mare with bad tendon injury. At least these two ladies will not be having any more babies in their lifetime.

On the way Carli stopped off in Jansenville to supply more tack to Fred, community member we met on our last trip. He was most grateful, showing off his received items to his friends His mare and foal were also looking good after last visit’s dewormer..

The ponies from Nieu Bethesda loaded and travelled well. With a departure party of caring members kissing and waving them good bye. Rosie, the mare with the tendon injury travelled straight to her new home and Miracle, older pony admitted to the unit. Thank you to Cayden for assisting Carli on this trip in my absence. Both mares doing very well with all the correct treatments in place. Carli also checked in on the little orphaned foal from last time who was thankfully doing very well. A bigThank you to Alex for sponsoring food for the little one during the cold winter J

Four donkeys and one cross breed’s hooves trimmed

A complaint of a young donkey in Kirkwood with a broken leg. Thank you to the kind lady living there who organised with the local police to PTS. If you come across this type of thing in your area, please keep contained and phone us or organise to PTS with your local police. The Animal Protections Act 71 of 1962 allows for two people of sound mind to give the go ahead if the animal is beyond repair and suffering to the extent whereby euthanasia would be the kindest option, with owner present  or not .

A Property check done for Loving you Baby, all good! Moved to her new home soon after , very happy for all. Go well girly, glad you are putting all that pent up energy to work ;)

Complaint received re some horses in Nieu Bethesda being underweight , owner spoken to and advised . Once again breeding is taking place which equals to  too many animals to feed! Gelding all your stallions would solve the problem!! No excuse if geldings are being offered at welfare rates let alone FREE! A spayathon is being orhganised for July this year with 20 plus horses are in line to be gelded.. Lets see if this individual comes to the party!

Four more donkeys hooves tendered too..

Donkeys out in Green bushes -Owner contacted and relayed that his groom takes them out to graze as he doesn’t have good grazing at this time of year. He knows the risk, but quieter roads where he grazes them ..

An evening call out to collect two pregnant  donkeys being beaten and overworked on a cart in Uitemhage. The same culprit who has a current case against him, so more evidence collected and three more donkeys safe and sound with us. Thank you SPCA Uitenhage for acting so swiftly! All dewormed on arrival, including foal at foot that was collected from the residence. Rest well darlings. No more work for you…

Two beautiful foals were born at the unit, both happy and healthy ! Welcome to the world little ones Nova and Matilda J Umbilical wounds sprayed and penicillin given just in case of any nasty bacteria floating around.

Two more ponies and two donks hooves done

A recheck on 16 horses, ok  just two looking underweight.. will monitor..

The old laminitic mare was visited again , looking a little better with new supplements however an Xray will now determine extend of disease to make the final call.

Another recheck done on one Tb and one companion pony wo have been getting out a bit during owner’s building renovations. Both doing well though.

Transportation of 5 donkeys to a new home, not ours but costs covered. All good except the fact that four of the five were stallions, with one mare.. eish ….

The sweet little Midnight that was not doing well in his previous home is now doing so much better now that he has received the xtra TLC he needed. So happy for you boy!

Recheck and deworm of three donkeys – all good

Then a complaint received about a donkey with ‘black mould ‘on its legs . With no food. A visit clarified the situation. Donkey had some fly strike on legs which unfortunately does look a little black at times as they bite the legs and leave blood droplets which turn black when dried. He had a beautiful clean camp, shaving in his stable, and feed in the garage, no problem there thankfully.

A recheck on two donkeys and the testes belonging to the one, or lack thereof. No gelding needed just yet.

A property Check for a pony and donkey all good.

Then a complaint received all the way from Rietbron.  Two community horses that were taken in from public area. Unfortunately there is a legal Process. As much as we all want to just take people’s animals away if we think they are not properly cared for, the law does not allow it. You need proper proof, a paper trail and officers of the law involved.

Seven ponies and four more donkey’s hooves done.

The then unfortunate situation with our last donkey owner in Walmer. You help and help and help and help .. for 15 years , then all of a sudden after a death of one of your donkeys you want to start making demands with an aggressive attitude?! Not today, and your rude behaviour is not going to solve anything. Come back with police or never again..

Our little Chester was moved with his companion to a safer premises as wires were being cut and stolen creating a rather serious problem.

Finally, our boy Benji and his new bff, Bevi, have been adopted and will be off to their new forever home down the coast in the next week or two. So happy for you two. No one was interested in them because they are older and don’t look perfect by no fault of their own but thankfully their guardian angel specifically asked for the souls that no one else wanted so what a luck they scored . Watch this space for Pics..

We also received an AMAXING DONATION from our MMM family of 100 fencing poles !! Woohooo!! Things are looking up. Thank you Guys you are AMAZING! We just cannot extend our gratitude enough to you earth angels XXX See Photo:

Eight more donkey hooves trimmed

Lastly a complaint of a tacked up horse loose on the N2 Highway running up and down the middle Island. Thank Heavens no accidents were caused and horse was retrieved by its owner within 40 minutes.

Till next time
