A slightly panicked mom called for assistance when her donkey was sweating profusely with a high temperature with no vet that could attend. Thankfully it turned out to be a ‘temperature’ from playing too hard with his mate Hurly J Oh we love when owners are slightly pedantic about the well-being of their animals. Rather safe than sorry.

Last three horses vaccinated for AHS.

Our new fencing is also now complete. Yay!

A call out to Hankey for an injured donkey who was roaming the town. Unfortunately after having proper a proper vet’s assessment, it was determined that the leg was broken. Rest Peacefully now boy

On a positive note, Our Pendragon, who was a little stiff and lame after admission was X Rayed to be certain before adopting him out. Fortunately he received the all clear! Woohoo! Now Available for Foster.

A complaint received of a Tb not looking good. After visiting the horse with owner present, they revealed the horse had been sick but on the mend now. Not great and not young but follow up pics definitely doing better.

Sweet Bless and not as sweet Sarmie J delivered to their retirement home eventually after being at the Unit for almost 3 years. Go well boys you deserve it X

Two rechecks of eight donkeys and 5 horses acceptable.

A call out to Hankey to collect one stray mangy donkey turned into an on foot 4x4 and bush tracking experience J we left defeated by this boy.. The Community were advised on way forward regarding tethering or containing of the donks which they did a week or two later, allowing us to collect all three Mangy boys and a most precious old lady (Ouma). The boys (Beatles) are receiving treatment for their skin issues. Ouma is receiving the utmost pampering and spoils and is feeling a lot more comfortable ;)

Our Fencing for the girls/geldings paddocks complete. Looking good.

An early morning call about a horse running loose through the Sunridge Dip. Scary situation but a security company contained the horse until the owner could collect, which was within half an hour. Horse safe and sound.

A compliant received of two older donkeys losing weight. After visiting the owner, assessed teeth which were sharp.  Organised a dentist visit which went surprisingly well. Sure this will help them to gain a little weight.

Matthew, from MULTITASKING Graphics Print and Signage very kindly offered to manufacture and erect a brand new sign for the unit totally free of charge. It looks fantastic and long overdue. Thank you kind Sir!

A scary case of bad colic for our poor Izzy. Eight days of no poop and vet visits (Thank you Dr V, You were amazing!) was causing serious doubt for improvement but then like a gift from God, out it came, one large packet. So relieved our dear Izzy is feeling back to normal. SEE PHOTO: The new Crush Station sponsored by HOLLYWOODBETS came in really useful

A difficult complaint re a horse with a bad injury on hind leg and no regular water proved to be a tricky situation as we are dealing with semi wild horses more than an hour away. A land dispute re the premises is making things even more difficult. Working with the complainant, SPCA  and vets in the area to possibly dart the animal to make possible for treatment. Getting all the spokes of the wheel to meet at one point at one time is not easy but we are not giving up.

A call from inland of a very thin horse walking down the high way just outside Burgersdorp. After advising the correct procedures and connecting the right people this kind lady decided to go back herself to collect the poor animal who is now receiving all the necessary treatment and care to get her back on track. Thank you T for following through for her

Delivered our two boys Sarel and Ben to a SUPER excited mom who has been waiting for donkeys for a very long time.. You are so loved boys and Mom’s updates are just so special.

We collected one of our fostered out donkeys after requirements were no longer satisfactory.

A recheck of six on thoroughbreds in a questionable condition. Some owners listen to advice and actually do make a concerted effort. Still monitoring.

Two donkeys returned to owner after pound fee paid and warning issued.

Another donkey received a visit from the dentist to eliminate any possible causes for possible discomfort.

Thirteen donkey’s hooves trimmed

Our beautiful Star, was homed to a lovely young lady who is going to give her her all. Enjoy your new family Star, we wish you all the best girl X

Three donkeys collected from another organisation who were unable to house going forward. Beautiful children! Available for Adoption, the colt only after his gelding.

A kind soul took in four children after feeling sorry for them. Doing all the right things for them. Bless you X We will assist as much as possible.

A complaint of a breeder in Somerset East, struggling to get details and actually get there. Not too urgent but will get there.

Eleven Cross breeds and four more donkey’s hooves tended to.

Finally a complaint received from Nieu Bethesda, of a very thin old mare all on her own. After finding the owner’s details, he agreed to surrender her to us as he realised he could not care for her as he should. This was a pleasant surprise as so many people when giving them this option lie to themselves and us by trying to convince us they can. Any way Anthony we salute you for doing the right thing by Gladys and NOT your ego. Collection of this sweet lady this week, watch the space..

Till next time
